Title X — Emancipation and Age of Majority

Article 236

EO 209 · Family Code of the Philippines

ELI5— what this means for you

Emancipation gives the young person the full right to contract (enter agreements), to sue and be sued, to exercise parental authority over their own children (if any), and to manage their own affairs. The only exceptions are those expressly provided by law (e.g., running for certain offices requires a higher age).

Official text — EO 209

Emancipation for any cause shall terminate parental authority over the person and property of the child who shall then be qualified and responsible for all acts of civil life. (412a)
