Title X — Emancipation and Age of Majority

Article 235

EO 209 · Family Code of the Philippines

ELI5— what this means for you

Emancipation by marriage was removed by RA 6809. Under the current law, getting married before 18 is not permitted (Art. 5), so this provision is effectively moot for new cases. Prior to RA 6809, a minor who married was emancipated.

Official text — EO 209

The provisions governing emancipation by recorded agreement shall also apply to an orphan minor and the person exercising parental authority but the agreement must be approved by the court before it is recorded. (n)
