BatasKo

Ang Batas, Sa Simpleng Salita — your rights, finally explained.

About BatasKo

Philippine Law Explained Simply

BatasKo translates Philippine laws into simple, human language — in English and Filipino — so you can understand what protections you actually have before you need them.

Why BatasKo Exists

Every Filipino has rights. Almost no Filipino understands them.

The Philippine Constitution, the Labor Code, the Rent Control Act, the Safe Spaces Act — these documents shape how we live, work, vote, and protect our families. But they're written in dense legalese that locks out the very people they're meant to serve. Most Filipinos only learn their rights after they've already been violated.

BatasKo exists to change that. Every article is grounded in real Filipino scenarios. Every law links back to its primary source. Every page is built for the worker, the tenant, the student, the OFW, the parent, the voter.

We're not lawyers. We're not the government. We're a small team that believes legal literacy is a civic right.

How We Make Content

Every BatasKo article is built on three principles:

  1. Primary sources only.

We cite the Official Gazette, the Supreme Court, DOLE, COMELEC, DSWD, and other Philippine government agencies directly. We link to the actual law text — never just paraphrase.

  2. Real Filipino scenarios.

We don't explain laws in the abstract. We show you how a law applies to a call center agent in Quezon City, a domestic helper in Hong Kong, a tenant in Cebu, a first-time voter in Davao.

  3. AI-assisted, human-reviewed.

Our research process uses Claude (Anthropic's AI) to help analyze, structure, and explain complex legal text. Every article is written, reviewed, and published with human judgment. We disclose this openly.

Who's Behind BatasKo

Founder & Editor

Irvin Abarca

Based in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. Irvin started BatasKo to make Philippine law understandable for everyday Filipinos — from workers and tenants to OFWs and first-time voters. He leads research, editing, and publishing for the site.

Claude (Anthropic) — AI Research Partner

We use Claude as our primary research and drafting assistant. Claude helps us parse legal documents, structure ELI5 explanations, and surface relevant case examples. Every output is human-reviewed before publication.

Legal Reviewer — Coming Soon

We are actively partnering with Philippine-licensed attorneys and paralegals to review our content. Reviewer credentials will appear on individual articles as the review process is completed.

Our Promise

  • We will never sell you a legal product disguised as advice.
  • We will never recommend a lawyer in exchange for payment.
  • We will always tell you when to talk to a real lawyer instead of trusting our article.
  • We will always cite our sources, even when it makes our content longer.
  • We will correct mistakes publicly when we find them.

General Information, Not Legal Advice

BatasKo provides general legal information to help Filipinos understand their rights. We do not provide legal advice, and nothing on this site creates an attorney-client relationship.

If you are facing a specific legal situation — a court case, a labor dispute, a domestic violence situation, a criminal charge — please consult a licensed Filipino attorney. The Public Attorney's Office (PAO) provides free legal assistance to qualified individuals.
