Title I — Marriage

Article 2

EO 209 · Family Code of the PhilippinesKey provision

ELI5— what this means for you

Two things MUST be present for a marriage to be valid: (1) both parties must have legal capacity to marry each other (right age, not already married, not too closely related), and (2) both must freely and voluntarily consent to marry. Without either of these, the marriage is void or voidable.

Key point

Legal capacity + free consent = valid marriage. Both are non-negotiable.
