Philippine population 1950–2026
From 19 million at independence to nearly 118 million today — the Philippines has more than sextupled its population in 76 years, driven by consistently high birth rates even as family size has declined.
The Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act (RA 10354) — upheld by the Supreme Court in 2014 — guarantees universal access to contraception, maternal care, and reproductive health education for all Filipinos.

Population pyramid 2026
The Philippines has a young population with a median age of 26.6 years. Over 40% of Filipinos are under 20 — a "demographic dividend" if the state can provide jobs, education, and rights protection for this bulge generation.
Filipinos aged 15-17 may be employed only in non-hazardous work and with parental consent under RA 9231. Full labor rights under the Labor Code apply at age 18. Child labor exploitation is punishable under RA 7610 and RA 9231.

Diversity by faith and language group
The Philippines is predominantly Catholic (79.5%) but home to a significant Muslim minority (6%), primarily in Mindanao and the BARMM. The country has 7,100+ islands and over 170 living languages.
07 · OFW Statistics
The Filipino diaspora
An estimated 11–12 million Filipinos live and work abroad — roughly 1 in 10 Filipinos. Their $37 billion in annual remittances (2024) fund nearly 9% of GDP and directly support millions of families. No other demographic group deserves stronger legal protection.
08 · Voter Demographics
Who votes in 2028
With ~75–78 million eligible voters by 2028, and 3–4 million Filipinos turning 18 before election day, the 2028 midterms and presidential cycle will be the largest electoral exercise in Philippine history. The Sara Duterte impeachment proceedings have already started shaping the political landscape.
09 · Population Projections
Philippines to 2050
The Philippines is projected to reach 121M by 2030 and 137M by 2050, though declining birth rates could slow this trajectory. The UN projects growth will continue through mid-century before leveling off.
With a growing aging population (60+ is the fastest-growing age group), the Universal Health Care Act (RA 11223) mandates automatic PhilHealth coverage for all Filipinos — a critical safety net as the dependency ratio increases through 2050.

Methodology note: The live population counter uses UN mid-2026 estimate (117,724,471) as base with a 0.79% annual growth rate, yielding approximately 2.51 persons per minute. Birth and death counters use PSA 2024 crude rates: 12.4 births per 1,000 and 8.0 deaths per 1,000 population per year. All figures are estimates — the PSA 2024 Census (112,729,484 as of May 1, 2024) is the only official count.
