Title II — Legal Separation

Article 59

EO 209 · Family Code of the Philippines

ELI5— what this means for you

During the 6-month cooling-off period after filing, the court is required to try to reconcile the parties. This is not optional — the court must actively work toward reconciliation before proceeding.

Official text — EO 209

No legal separation may be decreed unless the Court has taken steps toward the reconciliation of the spouses and is fully satisfied, despite such efforts, that reconciliation is highly improbable. (n)
