ELI5— what this means for you

Legitimation is the process of converting an illegitimate child into a legitimate one. Under the Family Code, legitimation occurs only by the subsequent valid marriage of the parents — provided the child was conceived and born at a time when the parents had no legal impediment to marrying each other (or only a temporary one).

Official text — EO 209

Only children conceived and born outside of wedlock of parents who, at the time of the conception of the former, were not disqualified by any impediment to marry each other may be legitimated. (269a)
