Title V — The Family

Article 151

EO 209 · Family Code of the PhilippinesKey provision

ELI5— what this means for you

Before any dispute between family members can be brought to court, the parties must first try to settle the matter at the barangay level or through a family council. This is the mandatory 'earnest effort toward compromise' requirement. Skip this step and the court will dismiss your case.

Key point

Family disputes must go through barangay/family mediation first. Court filing without this attempt = dismissal.
